Located opposite the Palm House, this is the first point of interaction for the visitors with the 2° Café. Visitors will enter the virtual platform that helps them navigate to the three stops.
yesterday
Please take a fragrance card
"Yesterday" marks the start of the coffee calendar. This phase of the coffee calendar is extremely important because blossoms symbolise the quality and quantity of the harvest for the year. The fragrance card paints the image of a coffee plantation in full bloom and is used as a journey guide with blank spots for visitors to fill along the way. On the back of the card is a map of the journey visitors will take as well as a simple coffee calendar.
Today
Please hold a filter card close to the plant
"Today" is located is inside the Princess of Wales Conservatory. The virtual platform plays an important role in communicating the overall story to the visitor. They see a real-life Arabica plant protected inside the conservatory under regulated conditions. Simultaneously, the virtual platform shows them the harsh reality of how coffee plants around the world appear in unregulated conditions. Through this juxtaposition, visitors learn that climate change has already begun shifting the coffee calendar and is causing the quality and quantity of coffee production to decrease globally.
tomorrow
Please have a seat and read our menu
At "Tomorrow" the visitor is transported, through the menu, to a hypothetical cafe of the future. The menu is a dramatic take on what coffee prices may look like if climate change continues to accelerate. The menu also has suggestions on ways in which visitors can help. Finally, they are asked to head to the Kew Café for a real cup of ethically sourced coffee served in exclusive Kaffee Form™ cups.
